Et puis, et surtout beaucoup plus florifère. Quel belle allure, même si son port est raide !!! Les fleurs ne sont pas très grandes, elles seraient même petites par rapport à celle de la plante type, mais alors, quelle abondance !!! Sa feuille est superbe, à la fois dans sa forme, sa couleur vert-glauque, et sa douceur au toucher. Ses fleurs, en belles cymes blanches apparaissent en mai-juin, et sont suivies par des baies assez grosses qui n'en finissent pas de se colorer et de rester colorées. Elles passent par une multitude de dégradés de roses, et durent très longtemps... Dans les régions assez douces, ils peuvent garder leurs feuilles en hiver comme V. utile, l'un de ses parents. De V. carlesii, ils ont pris surtout le coté parfum. Ils fleurissent un peu avant les carlesii à savoir en mars, début avril. Ils poussent un peu partout et sont très rustiques. Ils ont un petit avantage sur les carlesii, c'est qu'ils "attrapent" moins les pucerons que ces derniers. Je le considère comme semi-persistant sous notre climat. Mais, dans les régions où il ne fait pas froid, il sera probablement persistant. Il s'appelait autrefois Viburnum fragrans, et ça résumait toutes ses aptitudes. Vous aurez compris que sa qualité première est d'être parfumé, très parfumé, même. Il fleurit en période hivernale, intérêt supplémentaire ! On voit apparaitre ses premières fleurs vers septembre-octobre, s'en suit une petite interruption, et tout se termine en février-mars. Seulement les périodes d'humidité prolongée stoppent momentanément la floraison. Les fleurs sont rose pale, et sont suivies de fruits rouge écarlate.
